Interior renovation of a flat in Barcelona´s downtown for a foreign family. The flat dates back to the early 19th. century and keeps some of its original features such as stone walls, catalan vaults, cast iron pillars and iron windows. The gem of the flat is an outdoor garden with plenty of plants and a magnificent palm tree. The flat opens up around this garden to maximize the amount of light in the interior areas. In the back of the garden there is a garden house that also needed an update.
With this interior design project we aimed to bring the original features to shine while having an industrial look. We used upcycled hydraulic tiles in the entrance and combined them with microment and solid wood in other areas of the flat. We redid the staircase that leads to the cockloft in the patio house to bring safety and design to this space: a wooden staircase that turns and melts into a bench and then the microcement flooring. We restored some of the old wooden doors and added a few new ones. In the open kitchen we maintained an original gap in the stone wall that used to be the door that connected to the neighbour´s space to respect some of the original uses.
