Interior Renovation of a Historic Glassblowing Workshop in Barcelona
This project showcases a complete interior renovation and architectural restoration of a former glassblowing workshop in the city. The property, once occupied and heavily vandalized, has been carefully transformed into a bright and contemporary home while preserving its original industrial character.
Our goal was to maximize natural light between the street entrance and the rear patio, creating a fluid and open layout that connects interior and exterior spaces. The interior renovation highlights the beauty of the building’s existing structure and materials: original wooden beams were cleaned and polished, the Catalan vaulted ceiling was preserved with traces of historic paint, and exposed brick walls were carefully restored.
We also recovered and reused the original hydraulic tiles, reinstalling them in the kitchen area to maintain a tangible link to the building’s past. In addition, we restored the original wooden carpentry, sanding and treating the old wood to bring back its warmth and texture, and reinstalled the frames with fluted glass panels, enhancing privacy while allowing light to flow through the spaces.
This industrial building renovation in Barcelona combines contemporary design with the charm of historic craftsmanship, reflecting our studio’s commitment to heritage preservation.
